Imago Dei: A Journey of Integration through Poland
Beginning our Journey in Kraków
Your journey begins with a warm welcome in Kraków, a city rich in history and culture. As you arrive, you'll be greeted and escorted to your hotel, ready to start your exploration. A walking tour of Kraków will immerse you in the charm of its ancient streets, historic buildings, and vibrant atmosphere. In the evening, we'll gather for a welcome dinner, setting the stage for the experiences to come.
Discovering the Roots of John Paul II in Wadowice
The next day, we venture to Wadowice, the hometown of Karol Wojtyla. Here, you’ll walk through his hometown streets, visit his birthplace, and reflect on his enduring legacy, with a lecture probing John Paul II's philosophy of the human person, exploring his profound insights into human dignity and divine reflection. We’ll attend Mass at the Basilica of the Presentation of the Virgin Mary, where he was baptized, deepening our connection to his spiritual journey. After lunch, we explore the Wieliczka Salt Mines, a UNESCO World Heritage site. These ancient mines, with their intricate underground chapels, sculptures, and labyrinth tunnels carved entirely out of salt, offer a fascinating glimpse into Poland's rich history and the ingenuity of its people. The beauty and craftsmanship of this subterranean world will leave you in absolute awe.
Experiencing Divine Mercy in Kraków
On our next day, we visit the Shrine of Divine Mercy, a place of profound spiritual significance. Here, you’ll attend Mass, explore the convent where Sr. Faustina lived, and have the opportunity for confession. A Spirituality talk will provide deeper insights into the message of Divine Mercy for our times, and for its meaning for integration and healing within our own souls. The afternoon offers free time for personal reflection and to explore Kraków further at your own pace.
Reflecting on Human Resilience at Auschwitz and Częstochowa
Our journey continues to Auschwitz, a place that stands as a stark reminder of human suffering and resilience. Here we will reflect on the profound legacies of Saint Maximilian Kolbe who, in imitation of Christ, sacrificed his life for a fellow prisoner, and St. Edith Stein, whose unwavering faith and intellect continue to inspire resilience and courage in the face of adversity.
After a guided tour of the concentration camp, we will travel to Częstochowa. During the bus ride, there will be a thought-provoking talk on the psychology of resilience, helping us process the morning’s visit. In Częstochowa, we'll attend Mass and share a group dinner, finding solace and strength in communal reflection.
Embracing Polish Culture in Zakopane
In the following days, we head to Zakopane, a picturesque town nestled in the Tatra Mountains, a favorite retreat location for John Paul II. Known for its stunning natural beauty, Zakopane offers a healing environment for reflection and rejuvenation. You’ll enjoy a traditional cultural dinner featuring local cuisine, music, and dancing, celebrating the rich heritage of the region. The next day is dedicated to nature, with opportunities for hiking, taking a cable car ride to admire panoramic views, journaling, and practicing Catholic mindfulness amidst the serene landscapes.
Celebrating Corpus Christi in Kraków
Returning to Kraków, you’ll participate in the vibrant Corpus Christi processions, a deeply meaningful and visually striking event commemorating the True Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. The afternoon includes Mass at the Cathedral, followed by our final dinner and an evening tour of the city, offering a perfect conclusion to our journey.
Farewell and Reflections
As our pilgrimage comes to an end, you’ll depart with a heart full of reflections on human dignity, resilience, and the beauty of the human spirit, having experienced firsthand the rich cultural and spiritual tapestry of Poland.
